Conceiving a child in the womb of the mother is a natural biological process. But there are several couples in this world who fail to conceive a baby naturally because of different fertility problems. Such couples need assisted reproduction treatment for having their biological child in this world. There are 2 popular techniques which are used my infertility experts for treating patients having fertility issues. The first one is IUI or Intrauterine insemination and the other one is IVF or in vitro fertilization. When any couple visits infertility treatment center case history is thoroughly checked by the specialist before suggesting which treatment will be ideal for them. There are some specific differences between these 2 techniques. Continue reading to know about the differences:

•    Level of Complexity: IUI is a one-step procedure. Washed healthy sperms are placed directly in intended mother’s uterus at the time of her ovulation in support easy fertilization. IVF is a several stage process. Besides multiple stages, it also needs more than one procedure. Ovaries are stimulated with fertility medications and then egg retrieval is done using anesthesia. Now the eggs are fertilized using the collected healthy sperms of partner on lab plate for embryo formation. After the formation the embryo is placed in the womb of the prospective mother.

•    Chance of multiples: The risk of having multiple pregnancies is very high in case of IUI. IVF is much advanced now and can restrict the pregnancies up to 1 or 2. Multiple pregnancy risk is lower in IVF

•    Success rate: 8% to 15% cases per cycle below 35 years achieve success and for 40 years above cases, it is 2% to 5% only in case of IUI. For IVF around 40% to 45% of cases below 35 years achieve success and 15% or below for women having age above 42.

•    Cost: IUI Treatment in India is much cheaper when compared to IVF.

Many of the IVF specialists in Mumbai recommend at least one IUI cycle before going for IVF. Discuss your case with a specialist and know about your prospective chances of conceiving either with IUI or IVF.
